Doctrinal Statement

Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

WE BELIEVE there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory. We believe that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.

WE BELIEVE the SCRIPTURES of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired, without error in the original manuscripts, and the infallible rule of faith and practice.

WE BELIEVE in GOD THE FATHER, who is infinite, personal, and perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

WE BELIEVE in JESUS CHRIST, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and His personal, visible return to earth.

WE BELIEVE in the HOLY SPIRIT, who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, and in the exercise of all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit.

WE BELIEVE all PEOPLE are sinners by nature and choice and are therefore under condemnation.

WE BELIEVE God regenerates by the Holy Spirit those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. We believe Jesus Christ baptizes the seeking believer with the Holy Spirit and power for service, often subsequent to regeneration.

WE BELIEVE in the universal CHURCH, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members.

WE BELIEVE the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ORDINANCES to the Church: 1) baptism, and 2) the Lord's Supper. We believe in baptism by immersion, and communion open to all believers.

WE BELIEVE in the LAYING ON OF HANDS for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, for ordination of pastors, elders, and deacons, and for healing by the Spirit.

WE BELIEVE in the personal, visible RETURN OF CHRIST to earth, the establishment of His Kingdom, the resurrection of the body, the final judgment and eternal blessing of the righteous, and endless suffering of the wicked.

WE BELIEVE in what is termed 'THE APOSTLES' CREED' as embodying fundamental facts of Christian Faith.

Things We Hold To

  1. The inerrancy of Scripture.
  2. The teaching of the Word of God in such a way that it can be applied to life as beneficial towards a growing maturity.
  3. Simplicity in church government, rather than a complex bureaucracy.
  4. The continuance today of the diversities of spiritual gifts as found in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.
  5. The dependence upon the Holy Spirit to lead, rather than fleshly promotion.
  6. The pre-millennial, pre-tribulation return of Jesus Christ for His waiting Church.

Our Pastor

Our Pastor

Greetings,I was born and raised in southwest Missouri and born a second time when I was thirteen years old in a Southern Baptist church. When I was sixteen I began dating my future wife and began attending her church which is Free Will Baptist. When we were married three years later, we began attending my uncle's Full Gospel Pentecostal church. Therefore, is it any wonder that I have evolved doctrinally into what some have described as a Bapticostal-Calminian? With this background, becoming a Calvary Chapel affilliate was a natural for me.

Calvary Chapel represents the balance between the cessationalist belief, and the Pentecostal's belief in the continuing gifts of the Holy Spirit, albeit, all things done in decency and in order. We also believe that love is the greatest gift of all and therefore believe the fruit of the Spirit is greater evidence of a Spirit filled life than the gifts of the Spirit.

If you have searched for a church which represents this kind of balance, then perhaps we are the right church for you. We are a Christ-centered church existing for the glory and honor of Jesus Christ.

We believe the church should be a place where Christians gather to worship Jesus and offer the sacrifice of praise, giving thanks to His name.(Heb. 13:15) We also fellowship with Him at the table of His remembrance, giving thanks for His broken body and shed blood for the remission of our sins.(1st Cor. 11:23-26) We strongly believe that it is very benificial to partake of the Holy Sacrament of Communion every Lord's day even as the early church did.

We also remember Jesus' words to Peter, "Feed my sheep." Therefore, we place strong emphasis upon the expository teaching of the whole counsel of God, through which believers are brought to maturity and productivity.(Jn. 21:15-17) Well-fed and well-watered sheep naturally reproduce without artificial means, such as man-made programs.

We believe salvation is of the Lord and not of man. The Bible tells us that we are born again, not of the will of man, but rather the will of God by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, through scripture alone. And we believe that to God alone belongs all glory and praise, now and forever. Amen
(Jonah 2:9, Jn.1:13, Eph.2:8, Acts 4:12, 1st Tim. 2:5, 2 Tim.3:15, Jude 25)

Respectfully Yours in Christ,
Dennis Burge
